George Michael

Reasons to choose Wilson Browne

The late popstar George Michael, known for songs such as “Careless Whisper” should arguably have been less careless with his Will, as his estate became the centre of a legal dispute following his unexpected death on Christmas Day of 2016.

Michael made a Will notably excluding his former long-term partner, Kenny Goss, leaving his estate to family members and friends. Goss sued Michael’s Estate under the Inheritance (Provisions for Family and Independents) Act 1975 which allows those who were financially dependent to bring a claim.

Goss argued that he had given up working in order to support George Michael during their 13-year relationship and had been financially supported by the singer up until his death even though they had not been in a relationship for 7 years before George died.

Goss was 3 years late in bringing his claim however a settlement with the executors of the estate was reached. A Judge has ruled that the exact terms were to be kept confidential.
