Increase in demand for Will searches during COVID-19

Reasons to choose Wilson Browne

It was reported today that The National Will Register has seen an increase in people searching for Wills during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Feedback from people searching is that they need to locate a Will quickly in advance of a funeral to understand if the deceased’s Will contained funeral wishes. In such cases, the people performing a Will search are searching because they are either self-isolating, do not want to enter the home of others who may have or are suffering with the COVID-19 virus, or enter the home of a victim of the virus to look for evidence of a Will.

Neelam Maher, Partner in our Private Client (Wills & Trusts) Team comments:

We have had an increase in Will instructions as a direct result of what is going on, it really has focussed people on sorting their affairs out.  From our perspective we are dealing with the requests remotely and guiding clients through the signing process which can be achieved despite the social isolation/distancing rules.

In such unprecedented times we are moving away from the traditional process of making Wills which often involve face to face meetings but still providing a service remotely, ensuring clients are able to get their affairs in order at such a crucial time.
