Environment Agency Updates and Replaces Land Contamination Risk Management Guidance for England
Reasons to choose Wilson Browne
On 8 October 2020, the Environment Agency (EA) published new land contamination risk management (LCRM) guidance for England, which sets out how to assess and manage the risks from land contamination.
The new guidance updates and replaces previous versions, following feedback from stakeholders. It also replaces previous EA guidance entitled Model procedures for land contamination (CLR11), which has been withdrawn.
The guidance is intended for all those responsible for managing land that is subject to contamination, not just land that falls under the contaminated land regime under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. It uses a three-stage approach of risk assessment, options appraisal and remediation and verification.
