On 6th June 2018, Wilson Browne Solicitors hosted their inaugural Charity Clay Pigeon Shoot, raising money for the Crazy Hats Breast Cancer Appeal. The event, hosted by Tom Warrender and our Legal 500 recognised Commercial Property Team saw a mix of clients, land agents, surveyors, accountants, lenders and developers come together to raise money for a fantastic cause.
Now in its 17th year, Crazy Hats continues to flourish. They have donated in excess of £2.5 million to fund needed projects in both Kettering and Northampton General Hospital’s breast screening, breast clinics, oncology, theatres, plastic surgery and therapy departments providing them with equipment and resources, covering a very wide spectrum, all of which often need replacing or updating.
In addition they run several support groups at our base and at other venues where they also offer complimentary therapies and counselling – and singing! – all of which are very much oversubscribed, needed and enjoyed. Crazy Hats also run a holiday home scheme offering patients a welcome break at the coast to get away from the rigours of treatments.
Glennis Hooper, Founder and Executive Fundraiser of the Crazy Hats Breast Cancer Appeal explains “Our dream is to establish a purpose-built breast cancer support centre in the county – a centre that really is so desperately needed. We may have been going 17 years but in many ways, we have only just started – the potential for what we can and what we need to do is huge.”
On the day there were various winners:-
- Tom Freer of Budworth Hardcastle won the “best shooter” award in the morning session.
- Our very own Jenny Laskey was awarded “most improved”
- Brett Towerton, Gilbert Harvey, Nina Wilson & Neelam Maher won the team shooting event in the afternoon.
- John Naylor, of Cave & Sons won 1st prize on the raffle, winning 2 free shooting lessons kindly donated by the venue, Northampton Shooting Range

The event raised £750.00 for Crazy Hats. Speaking of the clay pigeon shoot, Glennis said “To Wilson Browne Solicitors, thank you all so very much for all your hard work in organising this unique fundraising day – we know how much work is required to ensure that all goes well. Your support for Crazy Hats, and your belief in the work we do across the county, over many years now, has been, and is, incredible. We truly appreciate all that you do to help us. To be supported by such a prestigious company has brought much credibility to our charity and we thank you for this.
I would also like to thank everyone who took part in the day to those who provided raffle prizes and such – again, we sincerely appreciate your support too.”
