Factors considered when instructing a lawyer

Reasons to choose Wilson Browne

Partner Tom Warrender ran another of his infamous LinkedIn Polls and this time asked the question, aside from professional service and costs, which factors are most important to people when instructing a lawyer.

This poll followed the recent poll “How do you instruct your lawyer?”, so this time Tom put professional service to one side on the basis that that should always be a given, and also put to one side cost, as he wanted to understand some of the other factors at play when people looked to instruct a lawyer.  The results of the poll can be seen here

Only 5% of those who voted placed emphasis on Awards and Recognitions, be that industry awards for the firm or Legal 500 recognitions, or kitemarks such as Lexcel etc.

41% of people cited testimonials as a big factor in instructing a law firm, being anything from short quotes from clients through to more detailed testimonials and case studies.

8% of people said they chose based on other reasons, and within those other reasons, a personal recommendation ranked highly.

The majority vote though, with 46%, was that people actually placed a huge emphasis on personality and it was clear from this poll that people really do value personality when instructing a lawyer.
