25 Year Environment Plan

Reasons to choose Wilson Browne

On 19 December 2018, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) published a consultation…

…on the framework of 65 indicators and metrics to track changes in the environment system as a whole to monitor environmental change and so measure progress in achieving its 25 year environment plan. This framework will be one of a number of ways in which the progress of the 25 year plan is measured.

The consultation closes on 25 January 2019 and Defra aims to publish an updated framework in early 2019.

The draft Environment Bill was presented to Parliament on 19 December 2018 and includes provisions to set the 25 year plan on a statutory footing as the first environmental improvement plan (EIP). The draft Environment Bill requires the Secretary of State to obtain data to monitor the progress of the EIP. This will be achieved using these indicators and metrics.
