Wilson Browne’s Lisa Franklin attended the Chartered Institute of Legal Executive Inauguration of New President Martin Callan.
On Thursday of last week she was invited in her capacity as Chair of the Leicestershire and Rutland branch of CILEx (Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) to attend the Presidential inauguration ceremony at the Supreme Court in London for the appointment of the new President of CILEx.
Other attendees included CILEx Heads of Branch as special guests, CILEx Council Members, and other VIPs. Lord Toulson, who is a British Judge, and member of the Supreme Court, was a guest speaker at the ceremony who discussed the positive changes in the legal profession that have occurred over the years and of the door that CILEx opens as an alternative pathway into the legal profession. He spoke of his experience of “managing clerks” in court throughout his career and the overwhelming knowledge that they personally demonstrated in comparison to their supervising partners.
The new President Martin Callan spoke about diversity at a time when it is more important than ever before that people of all backgrounds and are given the opportunity to progress their careers and become lawyers, and even judges. He added how so many CILEx members are now showing their worth and going on to win awards amongst their peers.
CILEx boasts members from all backgrounds, some of whom have decided to take the route to qualification after completing their degree or legal practice course having found it difficult to find training, and others who have started the qualification with no formal higher education qualification at all and everything in between.
Also on the night, Alexis Thomas, Graduate Member of CILEx was awarded CILEx Member of The Year for her outstanding contribution as Chair of the Cardiff and South East Wales Branch of CILEx.
The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives is a professional association representing over 20,000 individuals which, over the last 50 years CILEx has provided access to a flexible career in law, and is recognised in England and Wales as one of the three core approved regualators of the legal profession alongside Barristers, and Solicitors.
