Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations – Amendment Allows For Postponement

From 6 April 2018 the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) (Amendment) Regulations 2018 come into force. These amend the current provisions which require a landlord to carry out a gas safety check on any appliance and flue in the dwelling at intervals of not more than 12 months (reg.36).
The 2018 Regulations amend that obligation so that a landlord may elect to postpone that check by up to two months to allow for multiple checks to multiple appliances or flues to be carried out at the same time. That election may only be made once in relation to each appliance or flue in the premises and may only be made in order to align the safety check dates.
This will be good news for social housing providers as they will be able to streamline their safety checks making it more economical and effective to carry out checks.
